Msgr. Joseph Quinn, vice president of mission and ministry at Fordham University, shares his reflection on today’s retreat:
Could the question by any more direct or forthright? And yet today’s world so often seems to have made it ever more difficult to answer this apparently very simple question in an equally direct and unconditional fashion. Perhaps the answer to that contemporary challenge is once again to be discovered anew in the Gospel passage where Jesus tells us that unless we “become like a little child” in our spirit of acceptance and trust that we will never fully enter into God’s “kingdom.”
Children believe because children trust. To become a “child of God” is precisely to trust, to hope and thus to love as does a child so aware of and appreciative of a loving parent that there is no other option but to believe in the experience of that unconditional love .... a Love that is indeed God. It all begins with wanting to believe. It’s truly amazing how God can and does take it from there!
