A News Report from Ezekiel 37:1–12

Activity Objective:
To learn the story of Ezekiel's vision of God's spirit filling the people of Israel in exile
Lesson Outcome:
The children will be able to demonstrate their understanding of the story of Ezekiel's vision of God's spirit filling the exiled Israelites.
Materials
  • Bibles
  • Small index cards
Directions:
  • Welcome the children into the activity by saying: Today we're going to learn how the Holy Spirit transforms us and helps us to know how to live out God's plan for our lives. Let's take a few moments to recall what we already know about the Feast of Pentecost.
  • Invite the children to spend a few moments sharing what they can recall about the coming of the Holy Spirit to Jesus' disciples.
  • Ask the children to locate Ezekiel 37:1-12 in their Bibles and encourage volunteers to read aloud the passage.
  • After the reading, allow a few moments for group discussion.
  • When you feel that the children have an understanding of the passage, divide them into smaller groups and have them create a special  news report about the passage.
  • Allow them to use props, scenic backdrops, note cards, and anything else that might aid them in  their creative narrative reports.
  • Give the children plenty of time to plan their skits before inviting them to share them with the rest of the groups.
  • After all groups have presented their reports, say to the children: Pentecost commemorates the time when Jesus' followers received the Holy Spirit. Let's remember that the Holy Spirit is present in our lives too!
Learning Styles:
Art/Space Smart,Body Smart,People Smart
Approximate Time:
30-35 minutes
Hints:
If the children work in small groups, encourage each group member to present some of the information being reported. However, if some children are uncomfortable reporting in front of others, allow them to work behind the scenes by writing and holding note cards for those who are speaking.
