A Play: Jesus Called Saul to Be His Apostle

Cast: Reader • Jesus • Ananias • Saul • Friends

Scene I
Reader:	Saul, along with some friends, was on his way to Damascus. He was going to arrest disciples of Jesus. Suddenly light from the sky flashed around Saul. He fell to the ground with his eyes closed. Then he heard a voice.
Jesus:	Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?
Saul:	Who are you, sir?
Jesus:	I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.
Saul:	What am I to do, Lord?
Jesus:	Get up. Go into the city. There you will be told what you must do.
(Jesus leaves. Saul stands and opens his eyes.)
Saul:	I see nothing. The light has blinded me.
Reader:	Saul was led away by his friends. They too had heard the voice but had seen no one.

Scene II
Reader:	Later Jesus appeared to a disciple named Ananias.
Ananias:	Here I am, Lord.
Jesus:	Ananias, go to Straight Street. Find the man Saul who is praying and give him sight.
Ananias:	Lord, that man hates Christians.
Jesus:	Jesus: It will be all right. I have chosen Saul to be my apostle.
(Ananias goes to Saul. He places his hands on Saul’s head.)
Ananias:	Brother Saul, the Lord has sent me. Receive your sight.
Saul:	(Stands up) I can see!
Ananias:	Jesus wants you to be filled with the Holy Spirit. It is time you were baptized and had your sins washed away. Call upon Jesus.
Saul:	Jesus! Jesus!
Reader:	After his Baptism, Saul became Paul. He told many people about Jesus and brought them into the Church. He had to suffer much, but he suffered gladly because of his great love for Jesus.
