Kindness Calendar

Activity Objective:
To create a calendar for the children to mark acts of kindness
Lesson Outcome:
The children will focus on performing acts of kindness each day.
Materials
  • Sheets of 3" by 5" paper—with seven columns, one day of the week written in each column
  • 3" by 5" cards—stapled five to a pack with the staples along the top
  • Glue sticks
  • Markers or crayons
Directions:
  • Explain to the children that they can follow Jesus' example by trying to perform acts of kindness. Ask the children for some suggestions for carrying on Jesus' work by helping others.
  • Explain to the children that they are going to make a small calendar to help them track any nice things they do for others in Jesus' name.
  • Pass out the stapled 3" by 5" cards, four days-of-the-week sheets, and a glue stick to each child.
  • Distribute markers to the children.
  • Have the children write their name and "My Kindness Book" on the first page of the 3" by 5" cards
  • Next, ask the children to glue one day-of-the-week sheet to each of the remaining 3" by 5" cards. The day of the week should be on the inside, against the stapled side.
  • Have the children decorate the cover page and the remaining pages if they wish.
  • Tell the children they should keep these calendars by their beds and at the end of the day, when they are getting ready for bed, reflect on their day and kind acts they performed. Have them mark their calendars in some way for each day they performed a kind action.
