Advertise Sunday--It's God's Day!

Activity Objective:
To create a banner that reminds the children to celebrate Sunday as a day for resting and giving praise to God.
Lesson Outcome:
The children will be able to define Sabbath.
Materials
  • Large pieces of construction paper (12" x 18") (one per child)
  • Markers
Directions:
  • Begin the activity by brainstorming with the children ways to make Sunday a day for resting and giving praise to God.
  • Instruct the children to create banners with slogans that will help them to remember that Sunday is a day of rest. Give them a few examples like:

“Take the Sunday Express—It's perfect for R & R!”

“Sunday's a day of rest: God made it that way so leave it that way!”

“It's Sunday—Spend time with God's family and your family!”

  • Invite the children to print their slogans on a large piece of construction paper with markers. Encourage them to decorate the banners in any way that is appropriate.
  • Invite the children to show their banners to the group.
Learning Styles:
Art/Space Smart,Word Smart
Approximate Time:
5-10 minutes
Hints:
Be sure to approve the wording of each child's slogan before it is written down on the banner.
Sensitivities:
If there are children in your group with special needs (physical, visual, hearing, language, or behavioral disabilities), adapt the activity accordingly.
