Be Prepared

Activity Objective:
To become familiar with the Church's teaching on the proper preparation to be worthy of receiving the Eucharist
Lesson Outcome:
The children will be able to describe the proper preparation for being worthy to receive the Eucharist.
Materials
  • Large poster paper
  • Markers, pens, colored pencils
Directions:
  • Arrange the children in small groups.
  • Review following paragraph:

By "discerning the body," Paul means that those celebrating the Eucharist must understand that Jesus died for all people. To receive the Body and Blood of Christ worthily, we should not have had anyting to eat for one hour, we should have confessed any mortal sin we have committed, and we should be ready to live like Jesus.

  • Discuss why it is important to follow these guidelines.
  • Explain that the mission of each group is to create a large poster that can be displayed to remind everyone to be prepared.
  • Encourage the children to think of how to present the information in the most positive, effective way.
  • Display the completed posters.
Learning Styles:
Art/Space Smart,Word Smart
Approximate Time:
15 minutes
Hints:
It may be helpful to encourage the children to think of their posters as if they were billboards seen by motorists every day.
