Be Present to Me, Jesus

Activity Objective:
To teach the children how Jesus is present to us in the sacraments
Lesson Outcome:
The children will write and illustrate a message to Jesus on a paper plate.
Materials
  • White paper plates
  • Crayons
  • Pencils
Directions:
  • Tell the children that this activity will give them an opportunity to thank Jesus for being present to us in the sacraments, especially the Eucharist.
  • Ask the children how Jesus is present to us at Mass. (in the priest, the people, the Scriptures, and the Eucharist)
  • Show the children a paper plate and ask, This might be a symbol of Jesus' presence in what? (the Eucharist)
  • Give each child a paper plate. Invite the children to be creative in writing a message and/or drawing a picture for Jesus. (Examples: telling Jesus how they feel after receiving him in the Eucharist, thanking him for their faith, thanking him for always helping them, asking him to help them live as God wants them to)
  • Display the children's plates in a circular arrangement on the floor.
  • Conclude by suggesting that this big circle shows us how Jesus is present to all of us in the Eucharist and how we can show our thanks by reaching out to others in our lives. Encourage the children to reach out to all people, including those who are different from them.
