Christian Service

Service to others is performed by people of all religions and cultures. The natural human inclination is to help one another, especially in times of need. What makes this service Christian service? Service is Christian when it is inspired by the teaching and example of Jesus Christ, who said that he came not to be served but to serve (Matthew 20:28). Other examples of Christian service are attempts to unite one's efforts with other baptized Christians to spread the good news of salvation. Service is also Christian when it springs from the promptings of the Holy Spirit through prayer, Christian practice, or contact with the Christian community. Christian service can also be Trinitarian; that is, when it is offered to the Father, linked to the saving work of the Son, and made holy by the Spirit.
