Church and Ambo Visit

Activity Objective:
To show the children how the ambo in your church looks and sounds
Lesson Outcome:
The children will be more familiar with their parish church.
Materials
  • Scripture reading
Directions:
  • Check with your catechetical leader for a time to use the church. Ask to have the microphone at the ambo turned on.
  • Bring a simple Scripture reading for the children to read.
  • Take the entire group up to the ambo to view it up close.
  • Have the group sit in the pews closest to the ambo.
  • Let any interested child read aloud from the ambo the Scripture reading you have prepared.
  • Back in the room invite the children to share their reactions to reading in church.

Hints:
Discuss respectful behavior and your expectations in church before your visit.

Check to see if a foot stool is available for shorter children.

Seek permission to use the ambo in advance.
Sensitivities:
Do not force anyone to read, only those who volunteer.
