Dear Paul, We Thank You

Activity Objective:
To help the children to appreciate Paul's concern for all people in helping us to practice the virtues of faith, hope, and charity
Lesson Outcome:
The children will explain that faith, hope, and charity are virtues that help us to do good.

Materials
  • Writing paper
  • Pencils
  • Sign for each group, either Thessalonica or Corinth
  • 1 Corinthians 13:13
Directions:
  • Tell the children that this activity will help them to see how Saint Paul wants to help us be better Christians and to thank him.
  • Arrange the children in small groups and assign each to be residents of either Thessalonica or Corinth. Ask them to read their Bible passage when they sit down.
  • Remind the children of Paul's letters to his friends in these and other cities. Say: Paul was very concerned that his friends have faith and hope in God and that they love God and others. What do we call faith, hope, and love? (virtues)
  • Tell the children that Saint Paul helps us to be people of virtue through his letters too. Ask the groups to discuss their passage and to write a thank-you letter to Paul, telling him how they will live their lives as a result of his letters to them.
  • Invite the children to share when groups are finished.
  • Conclude by reminding the children how important it is to be people of virtue and share our love with others.
Learning Styles:
People Smart,Word Smart
Approximate Time:
10 minutes
Hints:
Walk around with your Bible while groups work, talk to them about their passage, and possibly read a few verses that come before or after their passage.
