Families Are Special

Activity Objective:
To help the children appreciate both the uniqueness and similarities in loving families
Lesson Outcome:
The children will understand that families are supportive and loving and will do their part to support their own families.
Materials
  • Family photos that children bring
  • Family pictures drawn by children
Directions:
  • Tell the children that in this activity they will have an opportunity to share some insights into their own supportive families.
  • Divide the children into groups of three or four. Invite each group to sit around a desk or table with their family photos or drawn pictures.
  • Invite the groups, one at a time, to take turns sharing one special thing about their families. They may show a picture or photo as they speak. Encourage them to relate how family members help each other.
  • After each child has had a chance to share a few times, bring the large group together.
  • Have a brief discussion about how families are alike and different. Try to elicit the idea of how good it makes us feel to help and be helped by our families.
  • Conclude by reminding the children that it is important for them to be loving and caring members of their own families.

Approximate Time:
10 minutes
Hints:
