Finding Jesus

Activity Objective:
To teach the children that Jesus was obedient to his parents
Lesson Outcome:
The children will be able to describe how Jesus obeyed God and his parents.
Materials
  • A picture of Jesus
Directions:
  • Tell the children that they are going to pretend that they are Mary and Joseph, and they are looking for Jesus.
  • Tell the children to imagine how Mary and Joseph must have felt when they couldn't find Jesus. Help them arrive at words to describe their feelings.
  • Show the children a picture of Jesus and tell them that you are going to hide it somewhere in the classroom.
  • Ask the children to put their heads down while you hide the picture of Jesus.
  • Guide the children to look for the picture of Jesus within the classroom.
  • Once the children have found the picture of Jesus, discuss how the children felt as parents looking for and finding Jesus.
  • Conclude by reminding them that Mary and Joseph were very worried about Jesus, and once they found him, they were very happy.

Draw or copy a picture of Jesus for this activity.

Encourage the children to think of as many different feelings as possible to describe how they were feeling while they were looking for and finding Jesus.
