Fired Up for Jesus

Activity Objective:
To reinforce the children's awareness that the Holy Spirit is with them, helping them to reach out to others
Lesson Outcome:
The children will describe how the Holy Spirit helps them accept Jesus' mission and lead prayerful lives.
Materials
  • Yellow construction paper
  • Crayons
  • Scissors
  • Pencils
  • Safety pins
Directions:
  • Tell the children that this activity will help them to remember that the Holy Spirit is always with them to guide them in reaching out to others.
  • Ask the children what it means to say that the Holy Spirit got the disciples "fired up."
  • Ask the children what symbol was used to show this in the Pentecost picture. (flame)
  • Write the words Fired Up for Jesus on the board. Invite the children to draw, color, and cut out a flame shape large enough to write these words on it.
  • Invite children to share some ways they can share Jesus with others.
  • Pin each child's flame on him or her, saying these or similar words: (Name), may you always be fired up for Jesus.
  • Conclude by reminding the children to pray for the Holy Spirit's guidance and to share the meaning of their flames with their families.

Hints:
Talk in an animated way so the children will respond excitedly and recognize this as being "fired up."
