Give a Friend a Hand

Caring Like Jesus

Activity Objective:

To encourage the children to be sensitive to other people's feelings so they can help those who are troubled

Lesson Outcome:

The children will follow the words of Saint Paul, who tells us that God wants us to show mercy and support for others as he does for us.

Materials

Directions:

Tell the children that they are going to do an activity that will help them to think of how they might help people in their lives who may be troubled.
Tell the children to each trace one of their hands on construction paper and cut them out.
Ask them to think of friends or family members who may need help or are feeling sad. Tell them to write a name on each paper finger.
Encourage the children to spend a few moments thinking quietly about something they might do to show each of these people they care.
Suggest that they take the hands home and put them someplace where they will remind them to be caring friends.
Conclude by reminding the children to be sensitive to their friends' words and actions so they will know the best way to help.
