Hear Our Prayers

Vine and the Branches

Activity Objective:
To explain the meaning of All Saints Day and All Souls Day
Lesson Outcome:
The children will demonstrate how Jesus nourishes us through the sacraments.
Materials
  • Large poster paper
  • Colored paper
  • Markers or crayons
  • Magazines or newspapers
  • Scissors
  • Glue
Directions:
  • Review Jesus' imagery of the vine and the branches.
  • Spend some time sharing with the children the ways in which they can extend their branches as bearers of fruit.
  • Then say: Our connection with Jesus is strengthened and nourished through prayer and celebration of the sacraments.
  • Invite the children to work with a partner or on their own to design a group collage showing people extending their branches to others.
  • Have the children draw pictures or find images in newspapers and magazines that show people extending their branches to others.
  • Then have them write a short prayer thanking God for helping us to extend our branches to others.
  • Give the children colored paper on which to paste their prayers and pictures. Each child or pair will create their own small collage before gluing it to the large poster board.
  • When the children have completed their collages, invite them to find a space on the large poster board on which to glue their collage.
  • When the group's large collage is complete, encourage the children to read the prayers and to look at the pictures.
  • Ask the children to share what they see in the images on the group's collage.
  • If possible, hang the group's collage in the room or in the building.
