I Will Follow You

Activity Objective:
To teach the children to trust the good examples in their lives and to be good examples to others
Lesson Outcome:
The children will use the example of Saint Joseph to explain trusting and being trustworthy.
Materials
  • Lunch bags
  • Crayons or markers
Directions:
  • Tell the children that in this activity they will have a chance to role-play being a good example to another or following another's good example.
  • Ask the children to make paper-bag puppets to represent themselves.
  • When they have finished, have the children work in pairs to role-play situations. Instruct each partner to think of how he or she could be a good example and to act it out with the partner following the example. (The good-example giver may tell the partner what role to play. For example, telling a partner that he or she is a little brother learning to cross the street.)
  • After all the children have had a chance to play both roles, have the whole group gather back together and discuss how it feels to trust and be trusted.
  • Conclude by reminding the children how important it is to be a trusting person and to be trustworthy.
Learning Styles:
Art/Space Smart,People Smart
Approximate Time:
10 minutes
Hints:
Walk around and discuss possible situations with the children as they make their puppets.
Sensitivities:
Be sure that the children understand that they should trust only those who are deserving of their trust.
