It's Academic

Activity Objective:
The young people will demonstrate their knowledge of the main points of this unit.
Materials
  • Paper and pencils
  • Envelopes
Directions:
  • Have the young people review the unit by going through their books and preparing for each chapter several questions with one- or two-word answers.
  • Collect the questions and place them in envelopes, with the chapters clearly marked.
  • Divide the group into three teams to play It's Academic. Appoint a timekeeper and a scorekeeper.
  • Have each team choose three young people to form a panel, one of whom will sit in the middle and be the captain.
  • Explain that you make the final decisions on answers and procedures
  • Round 1: Each team will have one minute to try to answer four questions. The questions may be discussed among the members, but only the captain may give the final answer. The team may pass if they don't know an answer. At the end of the round, the other teams can try to answer passed questions. Each correct answer earns five points.
  • Round 2: Same as Round 1, but five points are deducted for incorrect answers. Repeat with new teams.
Approximate Time:
20-25 minutes
Hints:
If desired, you may want to prepare the questions instead of the young people.
