Jesus Appears to His Friends

Activity Objective:
To identify Easter as the day Jesus rose from the dead
Lesson Outcome:
The children will be able to recognize Easter as the day of Jesus' Resurrection.
Materials
  • Bibles
  • Poster board
  • Markers, crayons, pencils
  • Drawing paper
Directions:
Ask the children to close their eyes and listen to the reading from www.usccb.org/nab/bible/luke/luke24.htmwww.usccb.org/nab/bible/luke/luke24.htm. Encourage the children to keep their eyes closed after you have read aloud the passage. Invite them to imagine the great joy that the women and the friends of Jesus must have felt when they saw Jesus. When you feel it is appropriate, ask the children to open their eyes and to share what they imagined.Write some of their responses on the board or poster board. Next, provide the children with coloring materials and drawing paper. Invite them to draw pictures of Jesus appearing to his friends. Ask the children to recall what they imagined during the reading. When the children have completed their drawings, invite volunteers to share their work with the group. Collect the drawings and display them in the prayer center.
