Jesus' Life Wheel

Activity Objective:
To reinforce for the children that Jesus' life, death, resurrection and ascension are all part of his story
Lesson Outcome:
The children will be able to summarize the story of Jesus' life, death, resurrection, and ascension.
Materials
  • White paper plates (two per child)
  • Markers or crayons
  • Scissors
  • Brass fasteners (round head with two prongs)
Directions:
  • Give two plates, a handful of markers, and a brass fastener to each child (or see Hints below).
  • Tell the children to divide the inside of each plate into four equal sections using a marker or crayon.
  • On one plate, have the children cut out one of the sections of the plate.
  • On the bottom of the other plate, have the children draw pictures of Jesus' life, death, resurrection, and ascension. They should draw one picture in each of the four sections. Have them draw them sequentially. (first section, a scene from Jesus' life; second section, Jesus' death; third section, Jesus' resurrection; fourth section, Jesus' ascension.)
  • Have them label each section: Life, Death, Resurrection, Ascension.
  • Place the plates bottom-side up together, with the cut-out plate over the colored plate. The plates should nestle snugly together. Punch the fastener through the center of the two plates, bending the tabs back to fasten the plates together. Spin the top plate around, showing one section of the bottom plate at a time.
  • Explain to the children that they now each have a scene wheel depicting the four major aspects of Jesus' life through which we are saved.
Learning Styles:
Art/Space Smart
Approximate Time:
10-15 minutes
Hints:
Smooth paper plates (ones without ridges on the edges) work best.

If some children finish early, they can decorate the top plate as well.

Place markers in a series of boxes among the children and have them use one or two markers at a time. They can put back old markers and get new ones as they need without taking a whole pile for themselves.
Sensitivities:
List the sequence of events in Jesus' life to help the children who have not yet mastered sequencing.
