Making Peace with God

Reconciliation Activity

Activity Objective:
To learn to make peace with God when we do something wrong
Lesson Outcome:
The children will learn that God wants us to make peace with him when we sin.
Directions:
  • With reverence, lead the children through the steps of asking for God's forgiveness.

Pray the Sign of the Cross together.
Ask the children to call on the Holy Spirit to help them recall times when they turned from God.
Invite them to express their sorrow by praying together the Act of Contrition:

My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart. In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good, I have sinned against you whom I should love above all things. I firmly intend, with your help, to do penance, to sin no more, and to avoid whatever leads me to sin. Our Savior Jesus Christ suffered and died for us. In his name, my God, have mercy.

  • Conclude by asking them to ask silently for God's help to live good and holy lives.
  • Remind the children that what they have done is the same as what they do when confessing in the Sacrament of Penance
Learning Styles:
Self Smart
Approximate Time:
10 minutes
Hints:
Maintain a sense of quiet and reverence throughout the activity.

Pause long enough between steps to allow the children to respond silently.
