Meet a Pope

Activity Objective:
The young people will deepen their knowledge of the popes since Saint Peter.
Lesson Outcome:
The young people should be able to describe the roles of the pope, bishops, and priests.
Materials
  • List of popes
  • Paper, pencils
  • Research materials
Directions:
  • Arrange the young people in pairs.
  • Have each pair choose from the list a pope they would've liked to have met.
  • Direct the young people to interview this pope based on their research of the following topics:

his life and times
how he became pope
how he guided the Church
the difficulties he faced as pope
papal writings for which he is remembered

  • When each pair has finished preparing their interview, invite volunteers to share their work with the group. Other young people may be invited to ask questions.

Hints:
Many Bibles have a list of the popes.
