Ministers of Hospitality

Activity Objective:
To allow the children to experience the role of the hospitality ministry as the greeter and the greeted
Lesson Outcome:
The children will learn the importance of the ministry of hospitality.
Materials
  • Chart—with dates when children are assigned to be Ministers of Hospitality for the session
Directions:
  • Discuss the job of greeters before Mass.
  • Ask the children if they notice them in their parish.
  • Assign two children to be the greeters for each session.
  • Role-play the expected behavior.
  • Post the chart for the children to view and remind them of their session before their turn.
  • Have the greeters stand inside the door to greet the other children at the start of the session.
  • Encourage the greeters to shake hands and say hello as the other children come through the door.
  • Ask the children to reflect on how it feels to be welcomed to the session and how it felt to be the ministers of hospitality.

Hints:
Assign two children to work together, matching shy children with outgoing partners.

Encourage the children to be a few minutes early when it is their turn to be greeters.
