Mirror of God

Activity Objective:
To identify special characteristics of ourselves
Lesson Outcome:
The children will recognize that they were created in the image of God, special and sacred.
Materials
  • Large hand-held mirror
Directions:
  • Gather the children in a circle.
  • Tell the children that each one of them was created special by God, in his image.
  • Show the children the mirror and tell them it is a magic mirror. Say: When you look in this mirror, you can see ways that you are special and that remind God of himself.
  • Demonstrate how the mirror works by saying: When I look in this mirror, I can see that I am made in God's image because I have good ears that try to listen to other people's feelings and needs.
  • Pass the mirror around the circle and ask the children to look in the mirror and see how they are made in God's image. For example, some children may have blue eyes for seeing the goodness in others, some may have a nice voice for singing, some may have fast feet for running, and so on.
Learning Styles:
Logic/Math Smart,People Smart
Approximate Time:
5-10 minutes
Hints:
Remind the children that there are special qualities that each of them possesses.
Sensitivities:
If there are children in your group with special needs (physical, visual, hearing, language, or behavioral disabilities), adapt the activity accordingly.
