If you’re looking for spiritual renewal during this Lenten season, don’t overlook the many valuable online resources that are available to you. In today’s digital age, the Internet offers Lent retreats, Lenten activities, Lent reflections, and a wealth of resources to help you deepen your relationship with God. Of course the convenience of the internet allows you to continually dig deeper as you search for the resources best suited for your spirituality.
Jesus spoke to crowds of people wherever they were willing to gather: on hill sides, on shore lines, in deserted places, and in peoples' homes. Today, people "gather" on the Internet and, yes, Jesus is there. The Internet can be a wonderful tool for assisting us in deepening our relationship with Christ during Lent. Here are just a few:
• Days of Deepening Friendship is an online Lenten retreat for women hosted by Vinita Hampton Wright
• Catechist's Journey is a blog hosted by Joe Paprocki filled with Lenten activities to help catechists bring Lent to life for young people
• People for Others is Fr. Paul Brian Campbell's blog that explores how working together to find God in everything helps us appreciate just how active God is in our lives.
• Online Lent resources provides a variety of valuable tips and methods for helping us to spiritually prepare ourselves during Lent.
The late Pope John Paul II referred to the Internet and other new media as the "Areopagus" of modern times - the place where people gather to share wisdom and essential information. Just as St. Paul proclaimed the Gospel to the elders (Acts 17:16-34) of Athens at the Areopagus, the Gospel today is being preached to crowds gathering at the new Areopagus - the Internet.
