Forgiveness Is Difficult but Necessary

Forgiveness Is Difficult but Necessary

by William A. Barry, SJ
Liturgical Year: Lent

Forgiveness is one of the most difficult aspects of God for us to emulate. It runs counter to our desire for vengeance, our sense of justice, of the rightness of things. Yet in the Our Father, we say, “Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who have trespassed against us.” When I am aware of how unforgiving I often am, I shudder to think that my forgiveness of others will measure God’s forgiveness of me.

This reflection is from Changed Heart, Changed World by William A. Barry, SJ.
