A Portrait of Saint Ignatius and You

Activity Objective:
To understand that Saint Ignatius was inspired by reading about Jesus and the saints
Lesson Outcome:
The children will learn that Saint Ignatius is an important saint who dedicated his life to God.
Materials
  • Paper
  • Crayons
Directions:
  • Talk with the children about how Saint Ignatius came to dedicate his life to God after reading books about Jesus and the saints.
  • Show them the Bible and some books about lives of the saints. Ask them to share stories of saints they have read about.
  • Show them a picture of Saint Ignatius.
  • Ask the children to fold their pieces of paper in half.
  • Ask the children to draw a picture of Ignatius on the left side of their papers.
  • Once the children have finished that picture, have them draw a picture of themselves reading a book on the other side. Ask them to title the book with the name of Jesus or a favorite saint.
  • Encourage the children to share their portraits when they are finished.
  • Conclude by reminding the children that Ignatius was inspired by reading about Jesus and the saints.
