Prayer-Before-Meals Puzzle

Activity Objective:
To let the children share their knowledge of the Prayer Before Meals
Lesson Outcome:
The children will be able to recite the Prayer Before Meals from memory
Materials
  • 6" x 4" index cards
  • Timer
  • Prayer Before Meals: Bless us, O Lord, and these your gifts which we are about to receive from your goodness. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Directions:
  • Break the Prayer Before Meals into six or eight phrases.
  • Write each phrase on an index card (one set for each group).
  • Break the group into smaller groups.
  • Give each group a set of the phrases.
  • Start the timer.
  • The children in each group are to put the phrases in the correct order.
  • When their cards are in order, the children should begin to recite the prayer as a group.
  • The activity ends when the first group correctly recites the prayer.

Hints:
  • Have the index cards printed out before the session.
  • If you have a poster of the prayer on display, you might want to take it down during this session.
Sensitivities:
Make sure as you assign teams that each group has a mix of children with varying abilities, including a leader.
