Sacraments at the Service of Communion

Activity Objective:
To create a description of the words "Sacraments at the Service of Communion"
Lesson Outcome:
The children will understand different ways we can be of service.
Materials
  • Cardboard pieces (8 1/2" x 11"), each with one letter from Sacrament, Service, and Communion written on them, and two additional cardboard pieces that say "at the" and "of" respectively.
Directions:
  • Explain to the children that there are many ways to be of service.
  • Divide the children into pairs and pass out to each pair up to four letters.
  • Have the children come up with an act of service that starts with the same letter they were given. (For example, "S" could be "save a seat at lunch for a friend"; "A" could be "ask a neighbor if they would like their lawn raked.")
  • Assemble the class together in a line, spelling out the words "Sacraments at the Service of Communion". In turn, have each partnership say their act of service until you have spelled out the entire phrase.
  • Explain to the children that there are many ways we can be helpful to others, and it is our responsibility to look for those opportunities.
