Servant Songs from Isaiah

Activity Objective:

The young people will reflect on how the servant songs in Isaiah can be applied to Jesus.

Lesson Outcome:

The young people should be able to identify Jesus' death on the cross as the moment when the true meaning of Jesus' kingship is revealed.

Materials

Directions:

Lead the young people in a review of the events leading up to Jesus' passion and death.
Divide the young people into groups of three or four. Assign each group passages from one of the five servant songs (Isaiah 42:1-4; 49:1-6; 50:4-9; 52:13-15; 53:1-12).
Direct each group to work together to identify phrases that could be applied to Jesus.
Have them print these phrases on poster paper and decorate the paper with appropriate symbols.
Have each small group share their work with the entire group.
