Servant Songs from Isaiah

Activity Objective:
The young people will reflect on how the servant songs in Isaiah can be applied to Jesus.
Lesson Outcome:
The young people should be able to identify Jesus' death on the cross as the moment when the true meaning of Jesus' kingship is revealed.
Materials
  • Bibles
  • Paper, pencils
  • Markers
Directions:
  • Lead the young people in a review of the events leading up to Jesus' passion and death.
  • Divide the young people into groups of three or four. Assign each group passages from one of the five servant songs (Isaiah 42:1-4; 49:1-6; 50:4-9; 52:13-15; 53:1-12).
  • Direct each group to work together to identify phrases that could be applied to Jesus.
  • Have them print these phrases on poster paper and decorate the paper with appropriate symbols.
  • Have each small group share their work with the entire group.
