Sharing Jesus Picture Cards

Activity Objective:
To understand the story of how the Holy Spirit helped Philip
Lesson Outcome:
The children will be able to explain how the Holy Spirit can help them share Jesus with others.
Materials
  • Large index cards, unlined
  • Markers, crayons, pencils, pens
  • Bible
Directions:
  • Lead the children into the activity by asking them to talk about some of the ways we share things with others.
  • Then ask them to consider how we might share ourselves with other people (helping others to feel happy, helping our parents prepare a meal, and so on).
  • Say to the children: Today we're going to learn how we can share Jesus with other people. We will talk about a special sharing time in our Church called Pentecost.
  • Invite the children to find a comfortable seated position and prepare to listen quietly as you read aloud the story about sharing Jesus from Acts of the Apostles 8:26-38.
  • After the reading, ask the children to recall the events of the story. Be sure to focus on how the Holy Spirit helped Philip to share Jesus' love.
  • Invite the children to imagine how happy the man must have felt after his baptism.
  • Provide the children with large index cards and coloring materials.
  • Instruct the children to write at the top of their cards, "I Share Jesus' Love." Write this on the board for the children to copy.
  • Then ask the children to illustrate a way they might share themselves with a friend or family member. Encourage them to think of something that will make the other person happy, just as Philip made the man happy in the Bible story.
  • Conclude by inviting the children to share their illustrations with the group.
  • Encourage the children to share their cards with family members at home by displaying them in a prominent place.
Learning Styles:
Art/Space Smart,People Smart,Word Smart
Approximate Time:
30 minutes
Hints:
As the children share their initial responses to the idea of sharing, write their responses on the board. This will help them develop ideas for their illustrations.
