Storytelling Time

Activity Objective:
To teach the children to recognize that families care for us.
Lesson Outcome:
The children will recognize that we are cared for by others.
Directions:
  • Tell the children that they are going to tell stories about their families to show that we are all different.
  • Ask the children to think about some of their favorite memories of others caring for them. Encourage them to think about holidays. Prompt them by asking such questions as, Do you like to dye Easter eggs on Easter? Do you like to help your parents carve the turkey for Thanksgiving? Do you bake Christmas cookies with anyone special?
  • Ask the children to reflect on some memories for two or three minutes.
  • Ask them to sit in a circle on the floor.
  • Encourage them to share their memories with the group.
  • Conclude by reminding the children that the love and care of their families reminds them of God's love and care for them.
Learning Styles:
People Smart
Approximate Time:
10 minutes
Hints:
Demonstrate by beginning the circle discussion with your own family memory.
