Walking With Jesus

Activity Objective:
To reinforce that following the Beatitudes leads us on a closer path to Jesus
Lesson Outcome:
The children will gain a sense that the Beatitudes will lead us closer to Jesus.
Materials
  • Stiff construction paper or poster board, cut into 9" by 11" shapes
  • Gray construction paper, cut into 2" by 4" "stepping stones" (enough for each child to have eight, with a few extra)
  • Copies of the Beatitudes for each child, typed or written so that each "beatitude" does not measure greater than 1 ¾" by 3 ½"
  • Scissors
  • Glue sticks
  • Markers or crayons
Directions:
  • Tell the children that living the Beatitudes helps us to follow Jesus and serve the Kingdom of God.
  • Give each child a poster board, eight gray stepping stones, a pair of scissors, a glue stick, and a marker or crayon. Let them choose any color marker or crayon.
  • Instruct the children write their names on the bottom of the poster boards, and Jesus' name on the top.
  • Have them cut out each of the Beatitudes, and glue one beatitude to each gray stepping stone.
  • Beginning with the first beatitude, above the child's name, glue the stepping stones in order up to Jesus' name, making what should look like a path to Jesus.
  • Let the children decorate along the sides if they wish, with flowers, trees, people, or objects that are important to them.
  • Tell the children that by living the Beatitudes, they are following a path toward being closer to Jesus.
Learning Styles:
Art/Space Smart
Approximate Time:
10 minutes
Hints:
Make sure the children order the Beatitudes correctly. You may want to suggest to the children to cut them out one at a time so they don't get the order confused.
Sensitivities:
Walk around the room to make sure all the children understand the steps in the project.
