We Are Special Awards

Activity Objective:
To make an award to give to a friend to recognize what is special about him or her
Lesson Outcome:
The children will recognize that Jesus loves children and that they were created in the image of God, special and sacred.
Materials
  • Award ribbons cut out of white paper (each with an area for the child to draw in the center circle and labeled with the name of the child with the words "John is special because…") (one per child)
  • Crayons or markers
Directions:
  • Pass out an award to each child. Tell the children that they should not have the one with their own name.
  • Tell the children to think about the child whose name is written on the award.
  • Ask the children what makes this friend special. Does he or she have a special talent? Is he or she good at something? Is he or she funny? Has he or she shown kindness and love to you?
  • Instruct the children to draw in the circle a picture of what makes that person a special friend to them.
  • Share the awards with the class and then have the children give them to their special friend to take home.
