Welcome, Welcome, Welcome

Activity Objective:
To reinforce with the children that our reception of the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist is our initiation into God's family, the Church
Lesson Outcome:
The children will be able to describe how we receive the Holy Spirit in the Sacraments of Initiation to make us members of the Church.
Materials
  • Seven Sacraments poster
  • Three pieces of poster board or sheets of butcher paper
  • Crayons or markers
Directions:
  • Tell the children that this activity will help them understand how we are initiated into God's family in the Sacraments of Initiation and why this brings such great joy to our families.
  • Divide the children into three groups. Give each group a piece of poster board or sheet of butcher paper and crayons or markers.
  • Assign one of the three Sacraments of Initiation to each group. Have the poster available for groups to consult.
  • Ask each group to illustrate the joy of receiving their particular sacrament. Tell the groups to express in words and pictures how the sacrament is received, what the result is for the recipient, and an example of each one's family's joy and celebration at a family member's reception of one of these sacraments.
  • Display the children's finished work and conclude with a sharing time. Remind the children what a great gift it is to be welcomed to God's family.
