What Am I? Game

Activity Objective:
To reinforce the vocabulary words learned so far
Lesson Outcome:
The children will test their understanding of the vocabulary words they have learned so far.
Materials
  • Sticky labels (The labels should have a vocabulary word written on each one. This should be done before class.)
  • Marker
Directions:
  • Explain to the group that they are going to play a quiz game. You are going to put a word learned during their sessions on each of their backs. The children will have to go to the other children and ask for clues to what their word is, and give clues to the other children's words. The only rules are that they may not say the word or give the direct definition. They can use any other clues.
  • Have each child sit at his or her desk, close his or her eyes, and put his or her head on the desk.
  • With the children in this position, walk around and put a sticker on each child's back.
  • When all the children have been given a sticker, invite the children to get up and begin walking around, asking for clues.
  • When they think they know their word, have the children come to you for verification.
  • If the children have guessed correctly, they can put their labels on each of their fronts and help others to guess.
  • Reseat the children and ask them if there were any words they had trouble with. Use any remaining time to go over these words.

Hints:
If you haven't spent a lot of time in previous sessions going over the words, you may want to do a quick review.
Sensitivities:
Make sure that none of the stickers could be hurtful to any of the children. (Example: Gluttony for an overweight child)
