What's My Child Learning in Christ Our Life Grade 2, Unit 5?

Unit 5: The Church Celebrates God's Care

Goals

  • The children will appreciate the roles of different members united in the Body of Christ, the Church.
  • They will be motivated to live as Christians throughout the summer with the help of Christ's presence and Mary's prayers.

Chapter 23: We Are One in the Church
The Church is one body in Christ. Christ is the head; we are the members. The children learn that the Eucharist unites all the members, enabling them to make their lives an expression of Christ's love no matter what vocation they live. The Church is missionary by nature. Each member of the Church is called to share Christ's message with others. The children learn specific ways in which they can show Jesus' love to people near and far.

Chapter 24: Mary, Mother of the Church, Cares for Us
Mary, Mother of the Church, intercedes for her children and leads us closer to Jesus. The children learn how devotion to Mary can bring them closer to her Son.

Chapter 25: The Church Celebrates God's Love
This last chapter reviews how God cares for us through the Church. The children are reminded that we come to know Jesus better at the celebration of Mass, when he speaks to us through his Word, makes his Paschal Mystery present, and comes to us in Holy Communion. They engage in a celebration that praises God for his love and care and helps them plan to follow Christ faithfully during the summer.
