Words of Wisdom

Activity Objective:
The young people will research the Wisdom books and reflect on the sayings and insights.
Lesson Outcome:
The young people should be able to identify sayings and insights from the Wisdom books of the Bible.
Materials
  • Bibles
  • Paper, pencils
Directions:
  • Review with the young people the Wisdom books of the Bible: Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs, Wisdom, and Sirach.
  • Tell them that centuries ago, the Israelites looked for wise people and wrote down their sayings and insights. These writings came to be known as Wisdom Literature.
  • Divide the young people into groups of three or four and have each group prepare "Words of Wisdom" by collecting 10 or 15 quotations from the Wisdom books mentioned above.
  • Have each group share their work by choosing two or three of their sayings and tell why they believe it is a wise saying for their lives today.

Hints:
You can have the young people look up the Wisdom books in the table of contents in their Bible.
