Words of Wisdom

Activity Objective:

The young people will research the Wisdom books and reflect on the sayings and insights.

Lesson Outcome:

The young people should be able to identify sayings and insights from the Wisdom books of the Bible.

Materials

Directions:

Review with the young people the Wisdom books of the Bible: Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs, Wisdom, and Sirach.
Tell them that centuries ago, the Israelites looked for wise people and wrote down their sayings and insights. These writings came to be known as Wisdom Literature.
Divide the young people into groups of three or four and have each group prepare "Words of Wisdom" by collecting 10 or 15 quotations from the Wisdom books mentioned above.
Have each group share their work by choosing two or three of their sayings and tell why they believe it is a wise saying for their lives today.
