To tell the story of Jesus' rising from the dead

Lesson Outcome

The children will be able to explain the story of Jesus' rising from the dead.

Materials

  • Bibles
  • Egg-shaped stencils
  • Poster board
  • Markers, pencils, pens, crayons
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Colored paper

Directions

  • Invite the children to spend a few moments sharing the ways they celebrate Easter and why they celebrate Easter.
  • After the children have spent some time discussing the significance of Easter, invite them to decorate large paper eggs.
  • Provide the children with egg-shaped stencils to trace onto colored paper.
  • Also provide the children with coloring materials, colored paper, scissors, glue, crayons, and markers.
  • Have the children write Jesus has risen! on their eggs. Write these words on the board or on poster board for the children to copy.
  • Allow the children time to decorate their eggs.
  • When the children have finished decorating, ask them if they know why we decorate eggs at Easter time.
  • Explain that eggs are signs of new life, just as Jesus' Resurrection is a sign of new life in heaven.
