Save Our Beautiful World

Activity Objective

To teach the children to respond to God's entrusting the care of his world to us by identifying ways to fulfill this responsibility

Lesson Outcome

The children will express an understanding of our responsibility to keep our world clean and beautiful for ourselves and for those who will live after us.

Materials

  • Drawing paper
  • Crayons
  • Pencils

Directions

  • Tell the children they will have a chance to use their imaginations to create a special environmental project.
  • Assign the children to work in pairs. Tell them to imagine that they are teams who are working for God's Environmental Agency. Their assignment is to create a brochure that will be translated into many languages and sent to everyone in the world. It will show God's wonderful creations and describe his concern that people care for what he has given them.
  • Give each pair a sheet of drawing paper and have them place it on their desk with the short ends at the top and bottom. Demonstrate folding it into thirds by folding the bottom halfway up and the top down to the fold. Then they should turn it the other way so that it looks like a brochure that will open up in thirds.
  • Give the pairs time to plan, write, and illustrate their brochures. They might include drawings of scenic rivers with warnings not to pollute or of people picking up litter in a forest preserve camping area.
  • Invite them to share their brochures when they are finished. Tell the children how pleased God would be if people everywhere would heed their thoughtful advice.
