CHICAGO, IL (February 1, 2017) – Loyola Press, the Jesuit publishing house serving the spiritual needs of readers for more than a century, today announced that it is serving as a Padrino for the V Encuentro, contributing $175,000 in total through annual contributions of $35,000 for each of the next five years.
V Encuentro is a deeply ecclesial process called by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops to discern the way in which Hispanics/Latinos respond as Church. Working with over 17 national and regional Catholic organizations that directly serve the Hispanic/Latino community, the V Encuentro aims to empower the Hispanic/Latino people to live their vocation more fully as joyful missionaries to the whole Church.
“Loyola Press is a strong supporter of Hispanic Ministry in the U.S.,” says Terry Locke, of Loyola Press. “We are honored and thankful for the opportunity to support this important initiative, and extend our heartfelt prayers to the U.S. Church for blessings on the V Encuentro process and beyond.”
Through a five-year journey of ecclesial reflection and action, the V Encuentro invites Hispanic/Latino Catholics in the U.S. to dedicated missionary activity, consultation, leadership development, and identification of ministerial best practices that empower the Hispanic/Latino community to a dedicated life of discipleship. Loyola Press’s support of V Encuentro follows years of accompanying the Hispanic/Latino community. The publisher produces catechetical materials to enhance the preparation and instruction of catechists and teachers using relevant and cultural context, and has also been a strong supporter of national Hispanic ministry organizations and events, including the formation of new Diocesan leadership in Hispanic Ministry.
As a further expression of its deep commitment to V Encuentro, and Hispanic ministry outreach in communities across the country, Loyola Press developed the video resource, “The Daily Examen for Missionary Disciples”. This Ignatian prayer resource was produced specifically for the V Encuentro, with the support of United States Conference of Catholic Bishop’s Secretariat of Cultural Diversity in the Church (Hispanic Affairs) and the participation of Fr. Allan Figueroa-Deck, SJ., theologian, pastoralist, and pioneer in U.S. Hispanic ministry.
“Our prayer is that this DVD resource will be used by individuals, as well as in communal prayer opportunities in parishes, dioceses, and organizations, to strengthen present and future missionary disciples in Hispanic and Latino communities and the entire Church in the United States,” said Joellyn Cicciarelli, president of Loyola Press.
