A Cupcake Celebration for the Saints

Activity Objective

To identify All Saints Day as a day when we think of those who live with God in heaven

Lesson Outcome

The children will show their love and gratitude for those who have shown them how to live as members of God's kingdom.

Materials

  • Plain cupcakes (one for each child)
  • Frosting
  • Cake decorations
  • Plasticware, paper plates, napkins
  • Strips of colored paper
  • Toothpicks
  • Tape
  • Markers or crayons

Directions

  • Take a moment to have the children think about their birthdays and the special ways they celebrate with family and friends.
  • Tell the children that they can celebrate All Saints Day by creating special cupcakes, like birthday cakes, for their favorite saints.
  • Give each child a cupcake, a toothpick flag, frosting, and cake decorations.
  • Before the children decorate their cupcakes, have them write the name of the saint on the flag. (The children will complete their cupcakes by placing this ?flag? into the cake in place of a candle.)
  • When the children have finished decorating, invite them to form a circle.Ask each child to pray a special prayer of thanks to his or her saint.
  • Before allowing the children to eat their special cupcakes, ask for a moment of silence. Remind the children that the saints are God's special friends, and they help us be closer to God.
