Activity Objective

The young people will be able to identify parables as stories that teach us about the Kingdom of God.

Lesson Outcome

The young people should be able to give examples of Jesus' parables.

Materials

  • Bibles
  • Paper, pencils

Directions

  • Divide the young people into groups of three or four.
  • Assign each group one parable. Possible parables include Matthew 20:1-16 (The Workers in the Vineyard), Luke 11:5-8 (The Persistent Friend); Luke 12:16-21 (The Rich Fool).
  • Have each group rewrite the parable from the point of view of one of the other characters or of someone who observed what happened.
  • Have the groups share aloud their rewritten parable. Invite the young people to discuss the point of each parable.
