Prayer is listening with a discerning heart

Yogi Berra tells us, “When you come to a fork in the road, take it.”

St. Ignatius prefers us to make our important choices more prayerfully...

Having a discerning heart helps us discover and understand what God desires for us – how we can follow God’s Will freely and joyfully.

St. Ignatius placed great emphasis on the role of desire in our relationship with God, believing that God often communicates with us through the deepest desires of our hearts.

Ignatius thus asks us to be attentive to the “movement of spirits” in our prayer so that we can learn how to separate “consolation” from “desolation.” Being conscious of our spiritual situation then helps us to freely choose what is best for us and for the reign of God.
