Does the Bible have anything to do with My life?

Yes it does. It tells the most magnificent of all stories—the story of how we’ve been redeemed. The Bible is also full of wisdom for daily living. It teaches us how to treat other people, how to handle our fears and sorrows, how to get our priorities straight. The wisdom of the Bible shows us how to become the people we were meant to be.

We take the Bible in small sips at Sunday services and sermons. To get the most out of it, we need to take a long, refreshing drink. Here are some ideas for a plan to shine the light of Bible wisdom on your daily life.

  • Set aside some regular time for prayerful reading and study of the Bible.

  • Begin by praying some of the psalms. (There are psalms for every mood and situation.)

  • Read through one of the gospels. Read it as a story written for you right now.

  • Use your imagination to put yourself inside some of the gospel stories. You are a bystander in the crowd watching Jesus heal the blind man Bartimaeus (Mark 10:46-52). You are the Samaritan woman at the well when Jesus comes along (John 4:4-42). You are one of the disciples walking with Jesus on the road to Emmaeus (Luke 24:13-32). Pay attention to what comes to mind.

  • Get a solid but accessible guide to the Bible to help you study it. There are many. The booklets in the Six Weeks with the Bible program help you study individual books of the Bible

  • Join a Bible study group at your parish. Or start one of your own. Here are some tips for starting a Bible study.
