You Are What You Eat

A Reflection by Barbara Wheeler

I serve on the board of directors of the food pantry at my parish. We work to feed the whole person – offering not only healthy food, but access to social services and job training that will help people get back on their feet in difficult times. One of the reasons I’m a part of this organization is that I feel fed by Living Bread as a part of this community.

When I think of my personal hunger to grow closer to God, I am reminded of the call to take care of the most vulnerable in God’s family. And none are so vulnerable as hungry families. When I pray today’s prayer, “Lord Jesus, Living Bread, may I always hunger for you,” I can’t help but add the phrase – “may my hunger help me feed those who hunger in body and spirit.”
