James Martin, SJ shares his reflection on today’s retreat:
Lately I’ve been asking Jesus to help me find something. And it’s something that might surprise you: my early life. I know that this sounds strange, but after you become "more religious" (in my case that meant entering the Jesuits) you tend to look back on the parts of your life that came before as somehow lacking in spiritual depth. At least I did!
But just a quick glance over your life—thinking about your family, your elementary school, your junior high and high school—will remind you of all the people whom God placed in your life. And all those moments when you found God as a young person. And when God found you. So this Lent, why not ask God to help you locate those special moments in your early life to find signs of God’s love for you. Which raises the question: Years from now, when you look back on your life today, where will you "find" God?
