DIRECTOR OF MARKETING - Curriculum Materials

ABOUT THE POSITION
The Director of Marketing – Curriculum Materials will drive revenue and achieve business objectives by developing marketing strategies and overseeing plans for curriculum materials and Loyola Press brand across all media and distribution channels; building external relationships; gathering and analyzing market information; and managing staff to execute plans and propel overall business health.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and execute annual marketing plans to achieve sales and marketing goals.
  • Train, manage, and mentor the curriculum resource marketing team to grow marketing acumen and ensure that all team members successfully execute annual marketing plans.
  • Maintain and build diocesan relationships in partnership with sales staff to ensure we are meeting current and future market needs.
  • Plan and conduct market research, and focus groups, in conjunction with New Product Development.
  • Plan and conduct customer experience research, guiding the marketing department to become a center of excellence for surveys and concept testing.
  • Network with Catholic school and parish influencers at the site level to build LP brand and product awareness; collect information; and facilitate partnerships for cross promotion and new product development.
  • Collect, analyze, and share competitor information; develop strategic responses, and identify opportunities and/or potential risks.
  • Work in partnership with Marketing Director Trade to ensure LP cross-promotional plans are executed.
  • Collaborate with Sales Director to develop annual sales goals by product and drive revenue.

ABOUT YOU

  • College Degree required
  • Minimum 7 years publishing marketing management experience
  • K8 Teaching Experience
  • Ability to travel approximately 15%

DESIRABLES

  • Familiarity with Catholic parish and school markets
  • Understanding of financial reporting and sales trend analysis

ABOUT THE POSITION
The Director of Marketing – Trade will drive revenue and achieve business objectives by: developing marketing strategies and overseeing plans for Trade products, and Loyola Press brand across all media and distribution channels; building external relationships; gathering and analyzing market information; and managing staff to execute plans and propel overall business.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop individual marketing plans for each new release to achieve sales and marketing goals.
  • Lead research initiatives for new products and new/changing avenues of consumer engagement.
  • Set PR strategy for new releases as well as year-on-year bestsellers.
  • Collaborate with acquisition editor and authors to develop publicity campaigns.
  • Network with Catholic influencers to build LP brand and product awareness, collect information, and facilitate partnerships for cross promotion and new product development.
  • Collect, analyze, and share competitor information; develop strategic responses, and identify opportunities and/or potential risks.
  • Identify and test alternative marketing methods, establish measurable objectives, and deliver post-event analysis to results against goals.
  • Collaborate closely with Sales to develop annual sales goals by product and drive revenue.
  • Manage distribution rights contracts.

ABOUT YOU

  • College Degree required
  • Minimum 5 years publishing marketing management experience
  • Ability to work effectively across departments
  • Ability to influence others
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to travel approximately 15%

DESIRABLES

  • Interest in Ignatian Spirituality and/or Familiarity with the Catholic Church
  • Experience in media relations and social media platforms

Manager of Production, Publishing

Loyola Press, a Catholic publisher, is seeking a Manager of Production to work in its Chicago office to oversee all aspects of production for curriculum and trade products, from the pouring and styling of manuscript through file release. Preferred applicants have substantial experience supervising the following areas: template creation, page-building in InDesign, and the implementation of best practices for publishing processes that pertain to production.

Responsibilities
Manage production staff and processes for the development of educational and trade products, print and digital

Position Requirements

  • Minimum 7 years of production experience in publishing
  • Fluency with InDesign, InCopy, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat, as well as familiarity with various presentation software
  • Knowledge of the latest Adobe Suite releases
  • Management experience in leading a team of production artists
  • The ability to establish and maintain efficient production and design workflows
  • Excellent organizational leadership and team-development skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and recommend production-related solutions
  • Collaborative, team-oriented, and positive work style
  • Understanding of product specifications and experience working with print buyers and Manufacturing
  • Complete understanding of print production and appropriate file setup with knowledge of digital file format and delivery
  • The ability to maintain composure under tight deadlines
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in graphic design or related field
  • Experience producing digital content

Desirables

  • Proficiency in Spanish
  • Familiarity with educational publishing and Catholic school marketplace
