Christmas Cards for the Homebound and Those in Nursing Homes

Activity Objective

To provide an opportunity for the children to reach out to others and be a gift to those people

Lesson Outcome

The children should become aware that by creating a card and offering prayers, they can bring happiness to someone they do not personally know.

Materials

  • 9" x 12" construction paper (seasonal colors)
  • Markers, crayons, and pencils
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Christmas stickers
  • Covers of old Christmas cards

Directions

  • Distribute the construction paper (one piece per child).
  • Instruct the children to fold their papers in half, vertically.
  • Have the children decorate the outside covers of their cards using the stickers, covers of old cards, markers, and crayons.
  • Inside the cards have the children write a seasonal message that ends with the sentence, I am keeping you in my prayers.
  • Remind the children to sign their names.
  • Tell the children: We will pray for these people in our prayer services in the month of January.

Check with the Catechetical Leader for a list of homebound individuals in the parish and make arrangements for the delivery of the cards.
