Mission Picture Frames

Activity Objective

To create a visual expression for the children in spreading God's Word

Lesson Outcome

The children will understand that they are part of Jesus' mission too.

Materials

  • Wide popsicle sticks
  • Glue
  • Markers
  • Blank white paper, cut into just under six-inch squares
  • Preprinted small pieces of paper with "We are the Church" or "We are God's People" written on them. (The pieces should be just under the width of the popsicle sticks.)

Directions

  • Explain to the group that everyone can be on a mission from God.
  • Pass out four popsicle sticks to each child and ask the children to assemble them in the shape of a square, like a picture frame.
  • Distribute the markers.
  • Attach the sticks together at the corners with glue.
  • Have each child write his or her name on the top of the picture frame.
  • Pass out the blank white squares and ask the children to visualize themselves doing something that represents their carrying on God's mission. Have them draw pictures of this action.
  • Glue the white squares into the picture frames and glue the preprinted sayings beneath these at the bottom of the frames.
  • Explain to the children that in these and many different ways, they can spread the Word of God.

Learning Styles

Art/Space Smart, Self Smart

Approximate Time

15 minutes

Hints

Instead of using preprinted pieces of paper, the children could write "We are the Church" or "We are God's People" on the popsicle sticks.

If time allows, have the children explain their illustrated activities.

Sensitivities

If there is a child who doesn't enjoy drawing, find another medium. (cutting out pictures from a magazine, writing it down)
