Coloring Easter Eggs

Activity Objective

To explain that one day we will share in Jesus? new life

Lesson Outcome

The children will be able to understand that one day we will share in Jesus' new life.

Materials

  • Hard-boiled eggs--at least two for each child
  • Egg-coloring kits, with dye and stencils

Directions

  • Invite the children to share what they know about Easter and why it is such a happy time for us.
  • Explain to the children that the word Resurrection means that Jesus rose from the dead.
  • Say to the children: We celebrate Jesus' Resurrection at Easter. Easter is a happy time that fills us with joy!
  • Give each child at least two hard-boiled eggs.
  • Say: Eggs are signs of new life because chicks hatch from them. Let's decorate our eggs to celebrate Jesus' new life in the Resurrection!
  • Provide the children with egg-coloring kits, and direct them to decorate their eggs.
  • When the children have finished decorating their eggs, place them in a special area to dry.
  • Encourage the children to take their eggs home and to share with others the significance of eggs at Easter.

Hints

Have everything prepared before the children arrive, including having the eggs already hard-boiled.

This can be a messy activity, so have your tables covered with newspaper. You may also want to provide the children with smocks to cover their clothes.
